Jan. 23rd, 2008 @ 09:02 pm how i made my millions part 420: 54 weeks later
i decided to log in just to see if my account even still exists. it is still here... 54 weeks since i last updated. we survived the wedding, the honeymoon and the first year of marriage. we bought a house in georgetown. troy sold the macbook i was writing about in my last posts in order to buy an imac. i still have my macbook. linux the cat is no longer a jerk (miracles do happen) and we have another kitty, a 6 or so month old female we named apple. she is very sweet, all she want is love (and some lovin' as she is in heat and needs to go to the kitty doctor to get that fixed!) i feel like i should have a lot more to say after not being on here for a whole year, and i will get to that stuff later. just checking in for now. not like anyone is going to read this anyway.

i'm semi conscious now. i've been asleep through most of the past two days (flu). today i have thought about koongarra a lot (the baby kangaroo amanda and i took care of a few years ago). molly has been a great friend to me through this bout of sickness. i seem to be doing better (hardcore cough syrup. kinda makes me wanna puke but it is quite bloody effective). i'm still having a macbooky good computer experience.

today marked the arrival of macbook number two. the macfairy also smiled on troy, in the form of an 80GB hard drive and 1GB of ram. we are now within 10 days of the wedding but it doesn't seem real yet! i began getting sick on new years eve and most everything since then has been a blur. i'm still pretty out of it but definitely improving. now if my head would stop hurting, i'd be doing okay. i'm in bed with molly lying on my feet. she has been my constant companion while i've been sick. she's such a good girl.

i am partaking of the current musical selection: julie playing wii- Rayman
i am now using my beautiful new refurbished macbook. it came with some surprises first of all being that it came early, and not only that- i ordered one with 512mb ram and a 60gb hard drive but OMG i got one with 1gb ram and a whopping 100gb hard drive!!! so far so good. i love it. my nervousness about switching from Ubuntu Linux to OS X has been alleviated. i was concerned that i wouldn't remember much about it and that i would miss using linux on my primary machine (which i am holding on to- thus far i've no idea how to set up network printing on this thing and printing to the two network printers in the apartment is a breeze with linux).

overall today went very well. our wedding shower at my cousin sandy's house went really well and quite a few people showed up. by some miracle the only duplicate gifts were things you can actually have a use for more than one of. we got two really nice can openers which we needed terribly and two couch throws. by some other strange miracle one of them matches my very strange couch. we got a variety of interesting gifts ranging from bethany's big metal pea pod to a crock pot. we ate a lot of tasty things and had a good time!

right now julie and jason are here with the wii. good times.

Dec. 27th, 2006 @ 12:41 am how i made my millions part 416: MACBOOK FRENZY!!!
OH HOLY CRAP!!!

i'm getting a gorgeous refurbished macbook in about five days (or however long it takes to ship). let me just say i'm a bit excited. it will be my first new computer experience since i got this old laptop through college back in 2002. i wanted a mac machine when i got my first PC back in 1999 or so... but to my great dismay all i could afford at the time was a really cheap old compaq. so many years later i wait in eager anticipation for my first apple computer. this will be my second apple product, as i received a lovely black 30 GB video ipod from my lovely soon to be hubby for Christmas. the only thing i'm sad about is getting used to OS X, at this point i have been using Ubuntu Linux for about a year and this OS is like a comfortable old pair of shoes. troy reminded me that OS X is like a new pair of the same kind of shoes, but better and more shiny.

Petie Gets A Mac

troy is ordering a macbook too and thinks i should let him take the first one that gets here. he better think again!

in other news...

the first dual-family holiday went rather well. my parents attended Christmas Eve festivities with Troy's family and troy attended Christmas Day festivities with my family. all went well and much delicious food was consumed. all in all, it was the best holiday i've had in a long time.

wedding is now only about 17 days away. after much prep i feel that most everything is done except some small and less important details. we have finally made reservations for the honeymoon and found a preacher, those two things alleviated a lot of the stress involved.

pet news- molly and linux are getting along very well. i think linux taught molly how to drink out of the toilet.

Molly pop is back home after a couple of days of negotiations with the humane society. she is happy, we are happy, even linux the cat is happy. now we are again at common grounds and as you can see the internet here is working beautifully (previously we had great difficulty in connecting to the router here). Joy Joy Joy. i am sitting here with my boy, a frozen blended zebra mocha and the biggest piece of cheesecake i've ever seen. they drew a heart on it in chocolate syrup.

my dad is still having issues and my mom is still stressed out.

Nov. 29th, 2006 @ 11:30 pm how i made my millions part 412: the dumps.
what a disgustingly shitty week. besides what is going on with my dad (as if that isn't enough), i've been really sick with some kind of cold-like thing that has caused me to lose my voice for almost a week now making communication extremely difficult. my mom is freaking out and i've been trying to be as supportive as i know how but what my parents are dealing with is sucky. the day before my dad's problems really came into play, troy and i adopted a dog from the humane society through petsmart. troy had been wanting a jack russel and she was a jack russel mix. she came with the name "marley," which we changed to "molly pop." she was a great dog and very sweet, but today we had to take her back. she was not house trained at all and we couldn't get crate training to work with her. we've tried to help her since friday before last, but with no improvement. i even bought a hand held carpet shampooer. we tried to tough it out with her but we couldn't make it work. we (especially me) were very attatched to her, and when we took her back it broke my heart. i hope we did the right thing. i hope she finds a good home somewhere. she's very adorable and sweet and loving and i miss her already. she gave me something else to think about during all the drama with my family and she helped keep me out of bed and going even though i've been so sick. i'm really down in the dumps right now. everything is stress right now and i am in panic mode.

i'm sorry molly. i wish things had been different.

we are currently at yet another coffee house. last night it was common grounds... we were unable to access the wireless there and left abruptly. tonight it is coffee times and wireless works beautifully. also they have a lot of really neat knick knacks to look at. i am not sure of the status of my work situation for tomorrow so i am avoiding caffiene for the night. i am having instead a lovely jones juice, bada bing flavour. delicious.

Oct. 22nd, 2006 @ 10:10 pm how i made my millions part 410: denied by dell
today, after much thought, i came to the conclusion that i was going to finance a new gorgeous laptop with a core 2 duo processor, 1 GB ram, 80 GB hard drive, the best monitor they offer, etc etc. i followed the steps on dell.com to build my own computer. i was excited and nervous as i filled out the credit application to finance the laptop. it was a great deal at just over $1000. a lovely machine which i was looking forward to running ubuntu linux on. to my great annoyance i was immediately denied! they have lost a sale from me. it seems the world is against those who actually have the ability to save money and pay things off immediately. despite the fact that i have never had to pay a late charge on anything in my life and am currently paying off a sudent loan, they do not trust my credit. apparently i haven't established my credit because the only credit card i've had in my life is my visa check card. i just applied for a store credit card this week which i may or may not use. apparently using a visa card to pay for things with money you already have just isn't trustworthy.

again it seems its been quite some time since i even thought about my livejournal. there was no official end to it, it never went out with a boom. it has simply been slowly forgotten in time. a short update is long overdue.

1. i bought a coral pink nintendo DS lite. let the stupid fun begin. i love the thing. yay mario kart.
2. my cat, linux, is still pretty mean. he's cute though.
3. i still like my new apartment despite the flood which wiped out about half of the vehicles that were parked here (on the night before julie and jason's wedding... two bridesmaids and countless neighbours lost thier cars). this is the beginning of the third month here.
4. troy and i are getting married in less than three months. it's sneaking up on us quick!
5. my job is pretty cool but staying in hotels is for the birds.
6. halloween is quickly approaching- it's my personal favourite holiday.

eh... i'm going to go see if i can still fit in my halloween costume.

i am currently sitting at the local coffee house with my fiance and a frappe with b52. since we finally have two laptops we have the freedom to be dorks not only at home but also in public. did i mention we are wearing matching st. patrick's day pajammas? yeah... dorks. but the boy had a bad day so i thought i better get him out and fill him with delicious coffee and sweets. the internet connection seems a bit on and off here. i hope i don't get a parking ticket, i only put 2 hours on the parking metre.

i wish i had more time for art. i'm in the mood to paint but i don't have my studio area set up quite yet. finally got all the parts to my loom momved in but it isn't set up either. i gotta get this stuff together! i need to make a new dress for the big reenactment next month. so many things i want to make but no place set up to do it!!!

argh... too much caffiene!

it's been a long time since i thought about my livejournal. i spent 11 nights of this month working at the state fair. i didn't like staying in a hotel that long. 8pm-8am shifts are hard, and it's very hard to learn to sleep at night again. i'm finally off the initial probation so i'm now a permanent employee.

have been working loosely on the wedding planning. i ordered a wedding dress and i've sent it back for a different size. the dress itself is gorgeous. i have my bridesmaids chosen and bridesmaids gowns all picked out... the chapel is reserved, the invitations are bought but not yet printed. the rings have been purchased. things are slowly starting to fall into place.

the cat is still psychotic. got some new shoes. had a headache most of this month.

my computing experience has improved greatly. with troy's help, i've now got a nice laptop. i am running ubuntu linux 6.06 on my old dell latitude. with the addition of extra ram, a new keyboard and a better hard drive it has gone from an unusuable mess to a very snappy little machine. i've been windows free/linux only for about 5 months.

Jul. 5th, 2006 @ 08:46 am how i made my millions part 406: bread
the fourth of july went pretty well this year. TJ and i went to cici's with julie and jason for lunch and rode around in their car for a while. we saw where jason used to live... in a ghetto much like our current one. TJ and i came back over here and i took a nap that lasted much of the afternoon. we invited julie and jason back over and i made a chocolate rum cake, burgers, potato wedges and beans. we walked to the baseball field to watch fireworks from the parking lot. we ended up waiting a long time, walking back the the apartment and returning. at some point we realised that they were giving away free sara lee bread at the gates. none of us had tickets, but the bread was right there by the fence. we surveyed the situation and decided since we have to hear the noise from the stadium all the time, we are entitled to any free items they might be offering at any given time. we sent in our boys who after two trips returned with a total of 9 loaves of bread! one loaf was passed on to a couple who also live on our street, bringing us to a total of 4 loaves per couple. it was decided that we deserved stolen free bread because we had to stand there and watch a ball game we didn't pay for to see fireworks for free. it's the american way.

right now i am hearing some live versions of new radiohead songs as performed at the bonnaroo fest... i had wanted badly to go but the $200+ tickets plus travel and lodging expenses made it impossible. so my long lived dreams of seeing radiohead live have yet to come to fruition- but at least i can hear it in its entirety any time i please. it is simply perfect. my hope is that after the release of the new album they will do a more extensive US tour- one that comes closer to my area. i can't help but be a little sad that they were so close and i had to miss it.

troy is on his computer, linux the cat is watching antenna tv (we don't normally watch tv so this is new to him). i have a cold or something like one- i've been sick continuously with one thing or another all year. i had a series of throat infections that led to taking antibiotics, which led to a severe and possibly lifethreating allergic reaction, the effects of which lasted months... since then there has been the nerve problems in my face which caused the most intense pain i've ever felt and the medicine reactions which caused barfing and made my stomach problems flare up again... then the pinched nerve or whatever in my neck/shoulder and now i have a cold~! all within a few short months. being sick all the time is a real drag, but otherwise things are going pretty well. thinking about getting a bigger apartment when the 6 month lease runs out here. need more room with a cat and a loom and a troy!

current obsessions:

1. bagel bites
2. civil war re-enacting
3. digiorno garlic bread crust pizza
4. www.postsecret.com (the book is great)
5. $5 hot and ready pizza
6. dual monitors
7. papa john's
8. watching linux play with bubble wrap

my cat is satan. his given name might be Linux, but i refer to him as Hannibal because he tries to eat my face when i fall asleep.

i have to cut this short becuause there is a storm a-brewin' and my battery life on this thing is very short.

i miss using my livejournal and now that my computer issues have been resolved i might just start paying it more attention.

Apr. 29th, 2006 @ 10:15 pm how i made my millions part 401: an important engagement
certainly a lot has happened since i last updated my livejournal. so much in fact i am not sure where i should begin. i guess i should get right down to the meat and taters first.

last night bethany, troy and i tried to go to cd central. when we arrived only to find it closed, we went to fayette mall. we immediately went to the coffee beanery. once troy and i had procured some white mocha frappalatte, we proceeded deeper into the mall. we looked about a bit and bethany wandered into a bookstore. troy and i were left standing near zales (we had been there twice already considering what type of ring would work with the celtic wedding bands we've chosen already). just at that moment, sarah and demetrius appeared briefly (they met around the same time as we did and they too fell madly in love). we took it as a sign. troy went in in purchased the ring we had chosen while i shopped about with bethany. he later showed the ring to her while i wasn't looking. that was while we were in hot topic (i was buying him a lovely bad religion dvd).

today we visited my parents in berea before heading over to the college pig roast. we didn't stay there too long, just long enough to grab a bite to eat and let a few key people know what was going on with my new job. i decided i'd like to show troy the main part of the farm. we drove there and got out of the car in front of the old sheep barn where i have spent so many hours. i knew he was about to ask me the big question. we walked down to the above the bottoms field where there is a beautiful sycamore tree down in a bit of a hollow. we walked through tall grass until we reached the tree. we embraced there, and troy looked at me with those big brown eyes full of tears and asked me to marry him. i replied that of course i would.
